The Seventh Cup by NITESH JAIN

Book: The Seventh Cup

Author: Nitesh Jain

Genre: Fiction

Reviewer: Ayush Kumar

About the Book:

The Seventh Cup by Nitesh Kumar Jain is a well-crafted mystery novel that contains just enough elements of a Shakesperean tragedy to make the reader sympathetic to the sociopathic protagonist, Avinash, a drama student from Goa, India. Enters Verona Schmidt, an unsuspecting Swiss exchange student, to upstage everyone in the college Dramatics Club and to become front and center in Avinash’s peculiar frame of mind. Over coffee at the local Nescafe, Avinash introduces Verona to the concept of mind transportation, which she perceives as nothing more than a fun game she is playing with a young man who seems to be flirting with her. The exchange student enjoys Avinash’s company and co-stars with him in his play put on by the Dramatics Club of their college. She eventually allows herself (despite her claim to having a so-called boyfriend named Kevin) to enjoy champagne and a kiss with Avinash. Dismissing the romantic moment as a drunken mistake, Verona flees back to Switzerland with the obsessed Avinash in hot pursuit across the globe.

So, when the first time I read the title of the book, I can’t control myself to take a journey of it by flipping through its pages. The back-cover synopsis of the book has the strength to keep the reader’s focus hooked at it.

Everything was defined very well, the characters were also very cleverly chosen.

The author has poured all the experiences of his student life in the university in Goa and the institution in Switzerland, into the book which can be observed.

When it comes to count the drawbacks of this book, I would like to mention one:-

Sometimes in the book, the story feels boring because author has stretched few scenarios for too long.

The color scheme of this cover also furnishes its catchy strength. Over this book’s cover is best at its place.
